"The Color Orange"

Exciting News....Art in our nearby neighborhood! I'm passing on this web site to anyone in the area who might be able to make the November 29th event. I'll be away, but it sounds like a fun way to meet creative people. Yes, I'm using "The Color Orange" for a reason!http://www.handsinc.org/ValleyArts.htm
Here's a quote from their newsletter: "As usual here at ValleyArts, we have exciting news for you: the first student-produced ValleyArts mural has been installed!!!

Studioworks’ summer 2006 apprentice-artists produced a vibrant, colorful mural based on a design by Andrea Williamson under the direction of master artist Russell A. Murray. The mural is above the side of 540 Freeman Street – in the Valley, of course – and looks great from Scotland Road or NJT’s Midtown direct.

Be sure to go by and check it out when you get a chance.

Also, please mark your calendar for ValleyArts’ first Neighbor-to-Neighbor Potluck Supper. This community gathering is scheduled for Wednesday, November 29, 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Valley Settlement House, 33-41 Tompkins Street, West Orange, NJ 07052. It is free and open to the public, but reservations are appreciated. Please reply to this message or call 973-678-3110, if you are able to join us."

Turkey At Last!

No, not that Thanksgiving Turkey. I've finally downloaded some of the photos from the trip to Turkey. I got back on October 3rd, almost six weeks ago, and I'm just getting around to it! Where has the time gotten to?

View from my room in Antalya. I spent a relaxing afternoon sitting on the terrace overlooking the glass-sided pool, and did this watercolor sketch of the scene.

View of the mountains, sky and sea from the restaurant terrace where I had lunch while the others in the group went for a Turkish bath. I shared my lunch with the friendly cat underneath the table and enjoyed the gift of a gratis Turkish coffee from the waiter. A rememberance of the colorful carpets and the beautiful fruits and vegetables served at breakfast, lunch & dinner. I gave our guide Adnan the sketch in appreciation of all his kindnesses on the trip. Posted by Picasa

Too Busy to Blog!

But it's been a good week! First, how do I feel about the Tuesday Election results???United We StandAND WE DID IT!
Lots of important HPT stuff happening this week; Museum meetings, Docent duty, etc. Last night was a blast at the Chili & Beer fund raiser. The turnout was great; the heavy rain and flooding all day didn't stop the beer devotees! There were 13 Tables from various breweries , providing samples of more than 50 different beers & ales, and about 7 different chilis, from vegetarian to barbecued ribs. I was the newsletter photographer for the event, so I could only taste 4 or 5 of the different beers and 4 of the Chilis....well, I tried my best! I'm not a beer drinker but I did like several of the brews from a Canadian brewery "Unibroue." Ale House Today I had a couple of scheduled Museum tours and an HPT meeting tonight. Tomorrow I'm off for a trip to Philadelphia, including a Textile Museum visit (more photos), lunch at Susanna Foo, followed by a concert at the Kimmel Center. Life is tough, but someone has to live it! It's hard to believe that it's been almost a month, and I still haven't done anything with the photos from Turkey. Before you know it, I'll be taking pictures of the other "turkey."
